Fun at the fair

Artist, and former SCC student, Rosalie Jurczenko demonstrates the art of art

Thank you to all the students, parents, staff, Lions Club of Wellington Host members, businesses and friends who assisted with our recent Art, Craft and Ethnic Food Fair. We raised over $3000 which we will use to benefit the students.

Don’t forget that we can still earn some funds for the college via any purchase you make at Jo Luping Design Store in the Willis Street Village. When you buy something (it has a huge variety of gifts) say  you are from St Catherine’s College, Kilbirnie, and they will  donate 10% of the sale to the college. At the end of each month until 30 September 2012 they will tally the sales made and donate the 10% into our school funds. The store is at Shop 6, 142 Willis Street, Wellington.

St Catherine’s College Swimming Sports 2012

Sports Captain, Rachel Duignan

Rachel Duignan, Sports captain for 2012 was in action on February 28th at the swimming sports at the WRAC. There was healthy competition between the houses. Sadly, following the national trend many students didn’t participate because they haven’t been taught to swim.

Commonwealth Day

Monday, March 12th was special for St Catherine’s for more than one reason.  For most, it was the celebration and welcome to our new Principal, Mrs Curran.  For several of our School Captains, though, it was also an opportunity to participate in the annual Commonwealth Day Observance, an ecumenical service held at Wellington Cathedral.  Anne Isaac, Grace Jansen, Pauline Cinco and Caira Uy represented the school in the procession of Commonwealth flags that opened and closed the service.  This year, the service took on special meaning as it is the 60th Jubilee of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and this was acknowledged by many of the speakers.  The theme of the service was “Connecting Cultures” and, as part of the service, we were treated to a magnificent Indian classical dance, as well as prayers and addresses by people from all different nationalities and faiths.  The attached photos show Anne in the flag procession, and the girls with African drummer, Sam Manzana, after the service.
