
Welcome to SCC Library
The Library is a major part of life and learning at our College. The Library provides a welcoming environment for students to access a range of resources which are useful and relevant to student’s studies and helps students learn how to access and use those resources. The Library also encourages and nurtures reading.
The Library has comfortable reading areas, learning spaces, a quiet study area and the Careers Office. We have 14 networked computers for student and class use. there is a bookable pod of 20 netbooks also available. The library catalogue is available on the school moodle page.
Hours
Monday – Friday 8.15am to 3.25pm
Homework club
Homework support is available in the library Monday to Thursday 3.3opm to 4.30pm. This club is staffed and there is some senior student mentoring available at this time.
Resources
The Library has over 7,ooo resources available for use. These include a wide range of non-fiction resources to support student learning programmes and a comprehensive collection of fiction titles with a focus on Young Adult fiction. We always have the latest series!
Staff
The College Librarian is Mrs Sophie Jolliffe. Student librarians: There is a group of students who help make the library run smoothly. New applicants are always welcome.
Online Resources
The library moodle page gives access to the library catalogue EPIC databases, INDEX New Zealand and a list of librarians recommended websites.
Borrowing
All students – Fiction, Non-Fiction and magazines – 5 items for 2 weeks. Textbooks also issued through the library.
Renews/overdues –Students are responsible for all items issued in their name. Borrowing records can be checked on the library catalogue on the moodle page. Parents and caregivers will be invoiced for lost books and textbooks. Books can be renewed any time. Overdue items will be read out in Whanau weekly. The house with the least overdue books each week gets 5 house points.
Copying and printing
The library has a colour photocopier/printer. Students use their ID card to print or photocopy. Colour printing is 30c a page , black/white is 10c a page. Students top up their cards as needed.
