English is the study, use and enjoyment of the English language and its literature. (NZ Curriculum 2007). Language is at the heart of learning and is central to full human development both in personal growth, and a a tool for tracking the complex tasks of school and society.
Through the teaching and learning programmes of the English Department, we aim to develop each student’s ability to understand, appreciate and use language effectively in as wide a range of written, oral and visual language situations as possible.
Staff of the English Department recognise that they have a major role, but are not, and should not be alone in providing fundamental growth in language learning and understanding that underpins all learning in the school.
